The candidate must:

  1. Be enrolled in the final year of a recognized high school or home school program in Virginia.
  2. Intend to further their education at a certified nursing school in Virginia.
  3. Be qualified to apply if they are a candidate for a transition program at a Virginia community college that leads to a bachelor's degree in nursing.

The candidate is required to submit the following documents in the sequence provided (without using paper clips or staples):

  1. DAR Scholarship Application Cover Sheet signed by the candidate.
  2. Application for the Virginia DAR Nursing Scholarship
  3. High school academic transcript (can be submitted in a sealed envelope)
  4. A self-written letter (not exceeding 500 words) outlining career goals and explaining the interest in pursuing a nursing career.
  5. A recommendation letter from a teacher or guidance counselor (can be submitted in a sealed envelope)
  6. Virginia Scholarship Financial Need form (can be submitted in a sealed envelope)

Rules:

  1. All necessary forms, transcripts, and letters should be sent in a single envelope.
  2. Applications submitted electronically will not be accepted.
  3. The award is granted based on merit and financial necessity.
  4. The award must be utilized in the year it is awarded.
