About the Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarships
The Jimmy Rane Foundation was created to help hardworking, deserving students pursue college. To date the Foundation has funded 756 scholarships. Recipients have attended institutions across the United States, including Auburn, University of Alabama, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Indiana, Troy, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and many others. The Foundation believes these scholars will make significant contributions with their education and will, in turn, pay that support forward.
Application timeline
- The 2026 Jimmy Rane Foundation scholarship application becomes available on December 1, 2025.
- Deadline to submit applications: Friday, February 6, 2026.
Eligibility requirements
To be considered for a Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Approved institutions: Scholarship funds may only be used at an accredited institution that maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and a normally organized student body on-site, and that is listed as accredited by recognized agencies with the U.S. Department of Education.
- Employment exclusions: Employees of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, its parent company, affiliates or subsidiaries — as well as their immediate family members or persons living in the same household — are not eligible.
- Student-athlete restriction: Applicants must certify that they did not participate as a student-athlete (including on a partial or full athletic scholarship or in any other capacity) in intercollegiate sports during the prior semester or academic year, and that they will not participate as a student-athlete in intercollegiate athletics during the upcoming semester or academic year.
- Online-only programs not eligible: Students enrolled exclusively in online or distance-learning degree programs are not eligible.*
- High school GPA: Graduating high school seniors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- College GPA: Applicants who are current full-time college students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
- Enrollment and age limits:
- High school seniors must be enrolled full-time and on track to graduate in Spring/Summer 2026, with plans to enter college no later than the fall term immediately after graduation.
- College applicants must be enrolled full-time as a freshman or sophomore, be progressing normally toward a bachelor’s degree, and be no older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2026.
- Residency: Applicants must have a permanent home address in one of the following states or the District of Columbia: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia or West Virginia.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents only.
- Limited online course allowance: Online or distance-learning courses are allowed only when they are part of a required curriculum that is taught in the campus environment, or when a required course is available only via distance learning.
Selection criteria
Jimmy Rane Foundation scholars are chosen for academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, documented activities/awards, and demonstrated financial need. Applicants should show resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles and pursuing their goals. Applications will be evaluated on:
- Clarity of future goals and a plan to reach them
- Evidence that the student’s high school preparation supports success in college
- Self-motivation, as shown by completion of challenging coursework
- Demonstrated financial need
*Students pursuing degrees solely through online or distance education programs are ineligible; however, hybrid programs or individual online courses that meet the conditions above may be acceptable.
