Spencer provides scholarships for Undergraduate, Graduate, Ph.D., and Pre-Instructor of Practice students who are registered at a recognized college or university in the United States or Canada and are physically present for their studies in either of these locations (remote coursework from other locations is not eligible). This includes part-time Graduate scholarships for professionals in the Risk Management & Insurance sector who are furthering their education.
Since its inception in 1980, Spencer has committed over $10.2 million to its Scholarship program, benefiting more than 1,600 students. Impressively, over 85% of those who have received a Spencer Scholarship continue to work in the industry.
Undergraduate Scholarships
Schedule:
- The application process for 2026 opens on October 1, 2025.
- The deadline for 2026 applications is January 31, 2026.
- Scholarship recipients are usually informed by the end of April for the upcoming Fall/Spring semester(s).
Details:
Undergraduate scholarships are typically $7,500, with a limited number of $5,000 scholarships given to the top-ranked freshman and sophomore applicants, and $10,000 scholarships given to the highest-ranked applicants.
Spencer grants scholarships to undergraduate students who meet the following requirements:
- Aspiring to pursue a career in Risk Management, Insurance, and/or Actuarial Science.
- Must be registered at a recognized college/university in the United States or Canada for at least one full academic year (two semesters).
- Must be physically present for studies in the United States or Canada (remote coursework from locations other than the USA & Canada is not eligible).
- Preferred (but not mandatory): Majoring/minoring in Risk Management/Insurance or a related field of study (such as actuarial science, business, finance, information technology, etc.)
- Preferred (but not mandatory): Relevant work/internship experience and leadership skills.
