Norma Ross Walter Scholarship

The Norma Ross Walter Scholarship aims to offer financial support to female graduates from Nebraska high schools who intend to pursue English majors at recognized colleges or universities. The scholarship is open to female high school seniors who are prospective first-year college students and have plans to further their education as English majors at accredited institutions. The selection process takes into account the applicant's intellectual potential, creativity, and character.
Norma Ross Walter served as a Navy Wave during World War II and later established a career as a newspaper editor in California. She was an admirer of Cather and often visited Red Cloud. She strongly believed in the importance of education for young women. Upon her passing in 1982, she left a legacy to establish a scholarship program. The first scholarship was granted in 1987.

First prize winner: $3,000.00
Runner-up: $2,500.00
Third place winner: $2,000.00
Each award is disbursed at the start of the recipient's first year in college. The scholarship cannot be renewed.
