John & Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program
Scholarship Sponsored by PGA of America
Overview
The PGA of America REACH Foundation (the PGA of America’s 501(c)(3)) has created a scholarship initiative to support students who intend to pursue PGA of America Membership. These awards, each worth $8,000, aim to increase recruitment and retention of motivated students—particularly those from diverse and historically underrepresented backgrounds—who are enrolled in PGA Golf Management University Programs across the United States.
Program administration
Scholarship America®, which designs and manages scholarships and educational-support programs for a range of organizations, administers this scholarship on behalf of the sponsor. The sponsor retains sole discretion over program eligibility, and Scholarship America’s evaluation team reviews qualifying applications.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be high school seniors, recent high school graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduate students. The program emphasizes outreach to diverse populations but is open to all eligible applicants.
- Applicants must plan to enroll full time for the entire 2026–2027 academic year in a PGA Golf Management degree program at one of the 17 accredited PGA Golf Management Universities and intend to pursue PGA of America Membership.
- Persons or immediate family members of the PGA of America National Board, PGA of America staff, or members of the scholarship selection committee are not eligible.
Awards
- Award amount: $8,000 per recipient.
- Number of awards: Up to twenty (20) scholarships will be awarded.
- Awards are one-time only (not renewable), but eligible students may reapply in subsequent years.
- One scholarship will be reserved for the top applicant with international interest or experience; if no qualified international candidate is identified, that award will be allocated to the next highest-ranked recipient.
- Funds are intended for undergraduate study only.
Selection criteria
Recipients are chosen based on the following factors:
- Academic performance
- Leadership and involvement in school and community activities
- Honors and recognitions
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Any unusual personal or family circumstances
- Demonstrated active participation in the game of golf
- An essay responding to this prompt: As a future leader in the golf industry, how would you work to increase participation and inclusion among groups or communities you believe are underrepresented in the game? Provide an example from your own experience that illustrates how you would approach this.
Note: Financial need is not a factor in the selection process.
Decision authority
Scholarship America and PGA of America jointly make selection decisions. All applicants agree to accept the final decisions.
Required application materials (must be uploaded)
- Completed Golf Verification Form. If you cannot complete that form, upload three golf scorecards from rounds played within the past six months.
- A current, complete transcript showing: student name, school name, listed grades, and credit hours for each course and the term in which it was taken. Grade reports are not acceptable.
- If you are submitting SAT or ACT scores and those scores are not already printed on your high school transcript, upload official test score reports separately. (If you are providing a college transcript, separate SAT/ACT reports are not required.)
Applications will be considered incomplete until all required documents are uploaded and submitted electronically.
Notification timeline and email guidance
- Applicants will be notified of award decisions in late March. Not all applicants will be selected. Eligible applicants may reapply in future years.
- Notification will be sent by email. When creating your application account, avoid using a school or employer email address; use a personal email you will retain long term.
- Add studentsupport@scholarshipamerica.org and the program’s notification email address to your safe senders/contacts list to ensure you receive communications.
Scholarship payment
Scholarship America will process award payments on behalf of the PGA of America. Disbursements are scheduled for early August.
