William A. Crawford Minority Teacher Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by Indiana Commission for Higher Education

Value: $4,000.00
Awards Available: 10
Deadline : Oct 01, 2026

Overview
The Commission administers teaching scholarships for students with ties to designated underserved counties. Eligible underserved counties are Allen, Marion, Lake, St. Joseph, and Vanderburgh. Scholarship recipients must sign a written commitment to apply for a teaching position at a school located in an underserved county and, if hired, to teach there for a minimum of three years.

Note: Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 289-2025 changed the eligibility rules for new applicants who apply after June 30, 2025. The requirements below apply to recipients applying after that date.

Eligibility (applicants applying after June 30, 2025)
To be eligible under the revised rules, applicants must meet all of the following:

- Live in, or have lived in immediately prior to beginning college, one of the underserved counties listed above.
- Be an Indiana resident and either a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
- Be admitted to—or already attending—an eligible Indiana postsecondary institution as a full-time student (or plan to enroll full time).
- Be a first-time undergraduate student.
- Be pursuing, or plan to pursue, an academic program that will qualify the student to become a certified teacher who can work in an underserved county in Indiana upon graduation.
- Provide a written agreement to apply for a teaching job at a school in an underserved county after receiving teacher certification, and to teach in that county for at least three years if offered and hired.
- Maintain the cumulative GPA required for admission to the institution’s school of education.
- Satisfy any additional minimum standards the Commission sets.

Renewal requirements
To continue receiving the scholarship after the initial award, recipients must reapply each year and keep a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
