Intro
Do you know a graduating high school senior in New Jersey who combines strong academics with active school involvement and a commitment to community service? The New Jersey Retired Educators Association (NJREA) offers yearly scholarships to support such students as they begin college or vocational training.
Who may apply
- Applicants must be graduating seniors from New Jersey public high schools, including vocational-technical and charter schools.
- Each scholarship is intended for graduating seniors only.
- A student may submit an application for only one NJREA scholarship.
- Awards are renewable for one additional consecutive year, contingent on the student remaining enrolled full time and maintaining the required cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year.
Scholarship awards and eligibility requirements
1) Elizabeth A. Allen / Isabelle M. Hickman (IMH) Scholarships
- Award: $1,500 for the first year (renewable for one additional consecutive year).
- Eligibility: Accepted to a four-year college or university and holding a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
2) Fred E. Aug Community College Memorial Scholarship
- Award: $1,000 for the first year (renewable for one additional consecutive year).
- Eligibility: Accepted to a community college and holding a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
3) Walter P. Krichling Jr. Trade, Vocational or Career & Technical Education Program Scholarship
- Award: $1,000 for the first year (renewable for one additional consecutive year, if applicable).
- Eligibility: Accepted into a trade school or vocational/career & technical education program to pursue certification and holding a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher.
Application materials (submit two (2) copies of each item)
- Completed NJREA scholarship application form (use the 2025 NJREA scholarship form — prior versions will not be accepted).
- Official high school transcript.
- Short essay describing your goals and interests for college and beyond.
- A list of extracurricular activities, athletics, honors, community service, and employment.
- Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a high school teacher.
- School profile provided by the Guidance Counselor.
Submission instructions and deadline
- All application materials must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2026. Applications received after that date will not be accepted.
