Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship

Introduction
Each year the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation (TASF) awards scholarships to qualified young men and women. The total number of scholarships depends on investment income received by the Foundation. Typically, forty (40) or more scholarships of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500) each are available annually. These $1,500 grants are awarded one time and apply only to incoming college freshmen (first-year students).
Eligibility
- Must be a student at an accredited high school who will graduate (or has graduated) in the spring of the current academic year.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
How to Apply
Application forms and instructions can be obtained through high school guidance counselors or from a local Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. chapter (use the Chapter Locator on the Tuskegee Airmen website to find the nearest chapter). Completed applications must be submitted to the applicant’s nearest Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. chapter by the deadline shown on the application. Applications that fail to meet the stated technical requirements may be disqualified.
Required Attachments
In addition to the completed application form, include the following:
1. An OFFICIAL high school transcript and current senior year schedule.
2. A copy of parent(s)’ most recent IRS Form 1040 (2016 preferred; 2015 acceptable) showing the Adjusted Gross Income line (generally line 37), or another official document showing AGI. (W-2 and W-4 forms are not acceptable.) For privacy, redact or “black out” Social Security Numbers.
3. Three letters of recommendation (from school counselors, teachers/instructors, community leaders, etc.).
4. An essay titled “The Tuskegee Airmen,” describing the impact of their experience on you (typed, double-spaced, maximum one (1) page).
5. A personal essay (typed, double-spaced, maximum two (2) pages).
6. A list of extracurricular and community activities (include Junior ROTC, Civil Air Patrol, BSA, GSA, Explorer Scouts, if applicable).
Selection Process
Local Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. chapters review, verify, and preliminarily screen applications. Applicants judged worthy are forwarded to the national Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Selection Committee for further review. The national committee, made up of multiple members representing each Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. region, evaluates submissions on a 100-point scale. Considerations include academic performance, extracurricular and community involvement, relative financial need, recommendations, and both essays when ranking candidates.
Notification
All applicants will receive notification about the outcome of their application, whether selected or not. Official scholarship awards will be announced by the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors.
