MDFF Educational Scholarship (Sponsored by Busey Bank)
Purpose
The MDFF Educational Scholarship, funded by Busey Bank, supports Indiana residents who have been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy or another neuromuscular disease and who are pursuing educational goals.
Background
This scholarship was established in memory of the late Andrew “Sparky” Seever, a former MDFF board member and Ball State University alumnus. Andrew valued education and worked to make learning more accessible. MDFF continues that mission by preserving his legacy through this award.
Award and Selection
One $2,000 scholarship will be granted. Recipients are chosen by the MDFF Awards Committee using these criteria: demonstrated financial need, academic performance, leadership, community involvement, and personal character.
Eligibility Requirements
- Diagnosis: Applicant must have a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy or a neuromuscular disease (refer to the list of qualifying conditions on the Muscular Dystrophy Association website).
- Residency: Must be a current resident of Indiana, USA.
- MDFF Enrollment: Applicant must be enrolled with MDFF.
- Educational Status: Applicants may be students at public, private, or home-school programs, enrolled in college, or adults returning to education to gain knowledge or training in a specific area.
- Eligible Programs: Two-year and four-year colleges/universities, trade or vocational schools, and accredited certificate programs are acceptable. Applicants may also be pursuing education outside a traditional classroom setting.

- The application period for 2025 is closed.
- 2026 application window: opens March 1, 2026, and closes June 1, 2026.
- Recipient announced: July 31, 2026.
- Award disbursed: August 31, 2026.
